MyMac Podcast 780: Jony is Going..Going..GONE

Sir Jony has left the building, and Apple’s leadership page on their website and there’s no coming back from that…probably. Thanksgiving was wonderful for Guy and Gaz is getting all his walks in. The big question, is it really necessary to constantly upgrade your Apple stuff each year? Can you let it go few a few cycles?

MyMac Podcast 774: To Cat or not to Cat

Guy is back from Texas and Gaz is ready to to multi-task with podcasts. The big question, should you go ahead and upgrade to macOS Catalina or hold off until it’s more mature along with any apps that aren’t ready for prime time.

MyMac Podcast 772: What ISN’T working

This refers to Guy installing and playing with macOS Catalina and not a general statement about the GMen and their work ethics…though it could be. Some new stuff and new problems with various Apple gear fill out the remainder of the show and one VERY generous PayPal person.

Guy’s Pick: Free professional level video editor? Whaaa? Olive video editor.

Gaz’s Pick: Luminar3 on the MAC currently 28.99 yes there is a version 4 coming out but this is a great app that can integrate with photos, you can buy a package which includes version 4 when it comes out but I think that version 3 is a cracker and worth the money if you want a good tool to mess with your photos on your Mac.

MyMac Podcast 759: Dashboard Drops Out

As we get closer and closer to macOS Catalina, sometimes it’s not about what we gain, but what we lose. Dashboard is one of those things, but seriously, when was the last time you used it?

Guy’s Pick: MovieMator Video Editor Pro. Yes, another Chinese video editor from the Mac App Store. This one has multitrack and can use keyframes. $14.99 which is pretty good at getting your feet wet in more complicated movie editing. I have a few complaints (split screen isn’t easy to use), but overall I like it.

Gaz’s Pick: Out of necessity my EE mobile provider App to keep an eye on my usage over this weekend, actually it’s a pretty good App all round for checking bills and stuff, it also allows you to share the data, we have a number of people on several plans and I can move data from one to another if someone is getting close to their monthly limit, It will be used this month I’m sure.
So if your are an EE user and in the UK, I don’t know if they have capability elsewhere, then don’t dismiss their App. Oh it’s kinda free, I mean you have to be with them of course 🙂

They actually talk very little about WWDC as it will probably have already happened by the time most listen to this. However developers are angry! So VERY angry for…reasons! Also more about chicken…so there’s that.

MyMac Podcast 752: The Greening of Tech

Gaz is off walking (VERY GREEN) while Guy ropes in Karl Madden from the Mac and Forth Podcast to burn off electricity to make a podcast (not at all green). Besides the usual stuff, they talk about what carbon neutral means and doesn’t mean and how power from all green sources isn’t always what you might think it is.

MyMac Podcast 750: Another Meaningless

750 podcasts that have been produced since 2004 is SO impressive! Until it’s understood that neither Guy nor Gaz other than a secondary presence wasn’t part of the first 285. So as a pairing it’s really show 465 which isn’t nearly as grand.

Guy’s Pick: Yamaha’s 10-input mixer, the MG10 is a nice little unit with built-in compression settings for the first two inputs. Would be nice if it was multi-track, but then I couldn’t complain about it. $155 on Amazon.

Gaz’s Pick: Apple’s Wallet application, if I’m not using for credit card transactions, which I must say I tend to use my watch, however for travel documents it’s great, the biggest problem is finding the trick to get the ticket in, but if that’s easy then I do it and keep them there.

MyMac Podcast 749: Apple Watches are swell

A longer show if you include the after show but shorter than the short show from last week if you don’t. Got it? Good. Guy is upset about the AAF shutting down and Gaz is upset that Numbers isn’t Excel. They’re BOTH upset that Apple watches are making the news but not in a good way and that AirPower is impossible. Apple’s Airpower that is since regular air power is easy as pie but not for Apple…So Apple Pie…oh never mind.

And the lull ends, so there is an Apple event at the end of March and I think they’ve announced the timings for the WWDC ticket lottery. So the End of March event could have a Who’s who of celebrities turning up, I wonder why?
Talking about celebrities as Guy is still frightening the locals somewhere in the depth south Karl Madden has joined me.
