MyMac Podcast 874: No Security Officially

Sorry about that bit of bad language at the beginning of the show last week. See THIS is what happens when you become a lazy audio editor and don’t listen through the whole thing or take notes to remember what to do when you start putting things together…or so Guy thinks he was told anyway. Also Who DOESN’T love having their their iPhone turned into a spying device on themselves? Am I right?

MyMac Podcast 873: AppleTV or AppleTV

Why are the GMen wasting time recording a podcast on Black Friday when we or AppleTV could be getting deals of a LIFETIME!?! Because it’s the same boring ho-hum nonsense from every year. “Special one day only deals” that seem to last a week on stuff we don’t really want anyway. Instead we’ll talk about the differences between the AppleTV, AppleTV, PLUS AppleTV!

Guy:- Can’t find your remote for your AppleTV? Well you can use the AppleTV iOS app to control it as well OR you can just AirPlay from your iPhone or iPad directly to an AppleTV box. That’s IF you have it already. Apple discontinued the app because it’s now built into your iPhone’s Control Center.

MyMac Podcast 872: Nifty Gifty’s

Ah the season of Black Friday madness is nearly here and with it comes the shouts of happiness and screams of “HEY! That’s MY parking space!” at 3 in the morning to get a 50-inch off brand 4K TV set from an unpronounceable Chinese manufacturer for $200. Well, we’re better than that aren’t we? No? Well, we’re likely buy better stuff anyway.

MyMac Podcast 870: M1X-Pro(MAX)-Ultra

There are times when vastly more important things come up than recording the 870th episode of a long running podcast. However going to see the Ravens lose to the Bengals isn’t likely on that list. However what did we miss anyway? Oh yeah new processors and laptops. Meh, who was paying attention to that? Somehow Guy gets through this week show even though he’s booster-sick

MyMac Podcast 867: So we’re back

Believe it or not, we had sort of intended to do a show from Macstock or nearby at least, but circumstanced deemed otherwise. Some virtual (but very real) technical issues, audio feedback, and the fact that Guy took a laptop running a Mojave beta (so no Rogue Amoeba apps could be run) meant that frankly it was just impossible. It also didn’t matter how many microphones Guy took with him (over 10) no matter what he thought at the time he was gathering them.

MyMac Podcast 865: Holy Crap! News?

No matter what some may say, there is no such thing as good or bad news, there’s just news. However the LACK of news lately has been Maddening (pun intended), so the announcement of an event on Tuesday, September 14th fills our hearts with glee, sunshine and rainbows, THAT IS good news!

Guy:- Two picks. The Inn at Leona is a fabulous place to stay with a wonderful staff and so much ambiance you could choke on it. Reasonably priced rooms too. Also the Strasburg Railroad is a 45 minute to the past that if you don’t enjoy, well then you just suck. COVID rules shut down their reservation system the day before, so we had the entire dining car to ourselves. Just luck of the draw, but it still would have been fun even full up.

MyMac Podcast 863: It used to be easy

Remember when simplicity was actually almost built-in to Apple products? When presenters would stand on stage and say “All you need to do is push this button and we’ll do all the heavy lifting.” Those days? LONG gone.

MyMac Podcast 862: Golden Age of Apps

Recent experiments by Guy has made him start to think. A dangerous precedent that you would believe the world would want to avoid, but they did it anyway. Is the current crop of emulation of not just X86 coded apps, but iOS and iPadOS apps a look into the future? Are we getting closer to that time when what OS you’re running is irrelevant? That’s the subject for the next section anyway.

MyMac Podcast 861: NOW we’re getting somewhere

That pesky Apple Car just won’t go away! Just when you thought it was safe to start looking at what analysts say again, this crops up once again proving the old saying…”Analysts are idiots who will say anything to get you to part ways with your money in the direction they’re being paid to tell you to spend it at.”. OK, the saying might not be old, in fact we may have made it up here on the spot, but it it doesn’t make it any less true.

MyMac Podcast 860: Your stuff is our stuff

BIG thanks to Karl Madden from the Mac and Forth podcast for stepping in and keeping Guy sane…company while Gaz was away. Apple is the company that gives and then takes away. Announcements have been made that they are going to start scanning users Photos library to help stop underage exploitation and while that is a lofty goal, what does it mean in regards to user’s privacy that Apple has touted in their press clippings?

Gaz is off doing all things Gaz this week so Karl Madden of the Mac and Forth Podcast graciously allowed himself to be blackmailed into being on. MyMac Podcast 858: So, what’s left

With fall about to drop in about a month, a lot people begin to focus of new iPhones. However with the transition away from Intel for the Macs, it has been a very chaotic kind of year not even including a global pandemic. The M1 Macs have been pretty good, but there’s lots of room for improvement with the Macs that haven’t gotten out of the labs yet.

MyMac Podcast 855: Monopoly

Lots of talk from Capital Hill in regards to those naughty big tech companies. Congress wants them to play by the same rules as the average person. As if the average person could create a big tech company…or that they could either. Oddly enough, Apple is probably in less of a fix as the other four by these bills definition.

MyMac Podcast 854: No Place like Home(Kit)

There are several standards in regards to home automation. Reaching back into the Jurassic age there was X-10 which made it possible to connect several devices to a home security monitored (by someone else) system. However it wasn’t very interactive once set up. Coming into the modern age besides Apple’s Homekit there’s Belkin’s Wemo (now discontinued), SmartThings, Ankuoo, D-Link, and TP-Link amongst others.
